PROGRAM OVERVIEW

GSK Science in the Summer™ is a free, summer education program that aims to inspire the next generation of scientists by providing opportunities for children to embody science careers, think scientifically, practice authentic science techniques, and have fun! The goal of the program is to increase children’s value of and confidence in doing science and pursuing STEM careers, especially for populations underrepresented in STEM.  

This year, GSK Science in the Summer™ will take place from July 5 – August 12 in libraries throughout the following greater Philadelphia area counties: Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia County. GSK Science in the Summer™ is for students in grades 2nd – 6th.  

 

POSITION OVERVIEW

Educators are applying to lead programs in one of the counties listed above and will travel to libraries to deliver this program to participants in person. If hired, Educators will receive a kit of materials in early June and be trained in program content by The Franklin Institute. Programs may be scheduled during the weekday, evenings, or weekends. All programs will be scheduled as either one, four-hour event or two, two-hour events. Class sizes may be limited due to library capacity but will not exceed a 20:1 student-teacher ratio. Educators will be scheduled to lead programs or be an on-call substitute in accordance with availability provided in the application.
